The right dealership management system is the powerhouse of your business. But when it’s backed by the right team? That’s when a true partnership happens—one that can span decades.

Vanderloop Equipment is a family-owned agricultural dealership that has proudly served Brillion, Wisconsin, for over 70 years. Over the decades, the business has expanded to include two additional locations in Lena and Beaver Dam, WI.

Despite this growth, Vanderloop Equipment has remained firmly rooted in its family values, with members of the Vanderloop family still actively leading the company.

Among them is Mark Vanderloop, a fourth-generation member of the team. With more than 20 years at the company, Mark began his career in the service department and steadily worked his way up through parts and service management. Today, he brings that hands-on experience to his role as Cold Sales Manager.

The dealership first started using DIS back in the 1980s, when Mark’s grandfather was still involved in day-to-day operations. At the time, DIS was a green-screen program, but Vanderloop Equipment has stayed with the system through all its evolutions. Today, they run their operations on Quantum, the current version of DIS software.

We spoke with Mark to hear how DIS has supported Vanderloop Equipment’s continued success across generations.

Which features of DIS Quantum do you rely on most in your daily operations?

Mark Vanderloop: It depends on the role inside the dealership.

If we’re looking at the service side of things, the time clock, the flat rating, and a lot of the Management 360 stuff really come into play—monitoring the WIP and that side of things.

Obviously, from a sales side of things, I live in units. I live and die in units—really watching and understanding what’s happened in the past and what we need to do in the future.

As you power through, the longer we’re with DIS, the more we learn what the system’s capable of. And I think that’s one of the biggest challenges: understanding what we can do inside of the business system. DIS is extremely capable.

Some of the analytics that are coming through are just going to help us grow even more.

Which efficiency metrics do you track in Quantum?

Mark Vanderloop: One of the big things that we watch is our technician efficiency.

Most of our jobs have a standard wait time, so we’re really paying attention to what our guys are billing out—to be fair not only to the customer base but to the dealership and the technicians themselves.

We monitor that very, very closely from a servicing side of things. And that, alongside the service WIP and some of the Management 360 stuff, allows us to home in and focus on key metrics to move the needle.

How has your experience working with the DIS team been?

Mark Vanderloop: Oh, the support team’s fantastic.

You know, in getting responses back—whether that’s, “Hey, we’re currently looking at matrixing our parts,” or we’ve had a lot of conversations recently on whether we adjust margins, what needs to happen at turns, and vice versa.

So that’s currently where we are today. That’s one of our projects we want to tackle.

And just getting to the right people—it’s been really good.

How do you see DIS supporting Vanderloop Equipment’s future growth?

Mark Vanderloop: You know, as DIS continues to implement things, continues to grow with their analytics, and continues to allow us to look into the past to see what was successful and what we can lean on—maybe make slight adjustments.

Being thirty-plus years, almost forty years with DIS, looking at that history, we can look at key metrics to move.

Much like the dairy industry, when you’re at the top of your game, it’s the little things that really matter—and those are the things in DIS that we can monitor.
